REPAIR ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM – PHASE 4 AT NAVAL BASE VENTURA COUNTY, PORT HUENEME, CA

US NAVY NAVFAC SOUTHWEST

NAVAL BASE VENTURA COUNTY, PORT HUENEME, CA

Stronghold Engineering Inc. was hired to repair a portion of the electrical distribution system at the Port Hueneme Naval Base in Ventura (CA) county.  Work focused on removing/demolishing a 4.16kV system on the base including transformers, switches, switchgear, substations and overhead/underground lines.  Stronghold then converted portions of this system for use at 12.47kV.

Project tasks included constructing a 350 MCM, 15kV backbone system connected with multi-way SF6 switches, reusing the existing 15kV conductors and underground substructures, replacement of padmounted transformers in various locations and also installation of energy consumption metering at the transformers for each building serviced.

When practical, Stronghold reduced the number of transformers by combining lightly loaded buildings to a single transformer and switchboard.  All equipment that was demolished was properly disconnected and removed and materials were salvaged to minimize landfill waste.

With our core foundation in electrical work, Stronghold was able to complete the majority of this project without the need for significant subcontracting.  Specific work included:  Removal of existing transformers and associated equipment/conductors and then replacement, manhole construction, disconnection and switch removal, terminations and termination cabinet installation, removal/replacement of existing circuit breakers, meter relocation, power outage coordination/phasing, cable tag production, lighting contactor relocation, grounding, etc.
