Naval Air Weapon Station
China Lake, Ca
This project called for the design-build rehabilitation of the Oasis Club Pool mechanical system located at the Naval Air Weapons Station in China Lake, California. The scope of work included: engineering, demolition, hazardous materials abatement, excavation, concrete, swimming pool construction, mechanical repairs, and electrical work. Work was performed on the existing outdoor 82½ foot x 45 foot swimming pool and the 10 foot x 10 foot wading pool. The Project Team repaired and replaced gutter drains, bottom drains, inlet fittings, underwater lighting, expansion joints, and ceramic tile. The complete mechanical, electrical and chemical systems, including piping, conduits and controls, were designed and constructed to operate properly with minimal maintenance. The Project Team also performed abatement on the existing 23 foot x 25 foot equipment room which had asbestos in the stucco and lead-based paint. Testing and proper disposal of the hazardous materials were effectively coordinated to mitigate any safety incidents. A new wood-frame room was constructed to house all mechanical equipment including filters, pumps, piping, controls, chemical treatment, chemical storage, and a water heater. A waterproof wainscot was also installed to prevent water seepage to adjacent rooms during hosing down of debris.
